This audio was created for the first unit of Spanish 2 which includes vocabulary related to clothing and shopping. One of the standards for foreign language learners states that students be able to interpret both spoken and written information. The assessments for this standard are called Interpretive Assessments. The audio begins with Latin music and then transitions to the instructions. After the instructions I chose to insert another music clip which will provide students the opportunity to prepare before hearing the listening activity. I then tell students about a sale at a local store, "El Corte Ingles." At this point in the unit students should be able to recognize "El Corte Ingles" as a popular department store in Spain. Students will then take notes and record what they believe to be important information. This activity would be a great addition to my Blended Learning lessons. During one rotation students would listen to the audio file and create an advertisement based on the information they collected. The advertisement would allow me to assess how well they interpreted the information. The file would be accessible to students via Google Classroom.
Note: Due to the time constraint there are some details not included. First, I would explain to students the requirements for the advertisement prior to beginning the listening activity. Also, before beginning this activity students would have already been exposed to different store advertisements and flyers which would provide them an idea of what to create. Next, the Spanish spoken section is very brief and does not provide a great deal of information for students to create their advertisement. If I were to use this in class I would provide students with additional information in this section. Finally, I would create multiple versions of the activity. Multiple versions removes the chance that students will copy each others advertisements. It will also allow me to create a speaking activity where students will share their advertisements with their groups.
