Student Practice Activities
Students were provided an opportunity to write, read, and speak in the target language during their Blended Learning experience. Each of these components is required of a successful langauge learner. At the writing station students wrote simple sentences about their schedule. An example was provided that very clearly identified the important components of each sentence. Students used Google Classroom to complete this activity. The activity also required them to insert pictures of celebrities that they thought resembled their teachers. At the reading station students interpreted authentic text and answered questions to assess their understanding. Students were provided multiple texts to read in order to demonstrate their reading comprehension skills. Students used Google Classroom to view the infographics and submit their responses. Finally, students practiced their ability to discuss a typical school day with a partner and the teacher before creating a Voki. The Voki allowed students to display their creativity and demonstrate their ability to speak in the target language. Students also had to demonstrate their ability to use the Voki website, publish a Voki and submit their final product using Google classroom. Feedback All stations in this blended learning lesson have been designed as a way to practice prior to a formal assessment of the content. Prior to creating their Voki students worked with the teacher to practice asking and answering simple questions about a typical school day. Students were praised of their good work and corrected when mistakes were made. A rubric was used to grade the Voki and provided suggestions for improvement. At the writing station (Mi Horario) students were provided feedback through the comments feature of Google Classroom. Once graded the assignment was returned to each student electronically with corrections and suggestions for improvement. If students chose to they could make the necessary corrections and resubmit for an improved grade. The infographic station was reviewed with the class as a whole the following day. The class viewed the infographics together and clarified points of confusion. After the class reviewed the material students were provided an opportunity to correct any mistakes on their own work prior to submitting. Work was then graded and written comments and suggestions were provided.
