I'm officially done, I re-recorded my last video!
I've successfully recorded all modules, located scholary articles, created homework assignments, learning outcomes, and introductins. I'm done! In my field experience video I mentioned that before this program I never recorded a single audio file or video file. I was a novice in the digital recording world. So, as I reflect back on this experience I'm proud of myself for sticking with it and producing work that I'm proud of. It's still hard to believe that the program is over, it was less than a year ago that I was finishing up my first two courses...now I'm almost finished with my 10th class. It's been a fun adventure and I've definitely learned a lot!

This morning, I began working on cleaning up some files and making sure I had uploaded all the appropriate documents to the One Drive when I noticed something horrifying, a small yet enormous mistake. The modules are titled Gradebook Design and Gradebook Management. Here's a picture of what I notice: The picture quality isn't great but you can still make out the mistake. I forgot to change the title of Module. So, this mistake appears on every single slide. Which means I have to rerecord and edit the module. So, close but yet so far.
Today I finished editing my final modules and submitted them to Dr. Winslow. I still can't believe I made it this far and I'm so close to the end. I chose this experience becuase I knew it would be a challenge for me and boy was it. It was something that was totally out of my comfort zone. It challenged and frustarted me in ways I never could have imagined but, I did it. Although I'm by no means a professional or an expert, I'm proud of myself for what I accomplished this semester.
After receving final approval from Dr. Winslow I began recording my last two modules. These last two modules have been the most difficult for me to complete and required the most revisions. I think the hardest part was not understanding Dr. Winslow's vision for these modules. Somewhere along the long I misinterepretted what he envisioned and I had a hard time self correcting. I think that's been one of the most challenging things, making someone else's vision come to life. I think it's a valauble lesson and one to consider when determining my future career path. Up until this point, in my career, I have had complete design control. In my classroom, I plan, create and implement, all on my own, so I'm always in control. This project has forced me to relinquish much of that control which is definitely a good thing and an invaluable experience.
I finally bit the bullet and purchased a Yeti microphone and I'm in love with it. After listening to the recording from my first module I will definitely admit that it is worth the money and definitely a wise investment. I recorded the two PDL modules and after a little more editing will be ready to submit them to Dr. Winslow for approval. I also began looking at the my modules within Moodle and began editing and inserting the necessary components. The end is near but, there is still a lot of work to do! Today, I submitted my final power point to Dr. Winslow and boy does it feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm no where near done but in mind creating the power points and writing the scripts is the hard part, the recording is the fun part! All I need is the go ahead before I can start recording the grade management and ethics modules.
As the end of the semester comes closer and closer I am really starting to feel the time crunch, I'm worried I won't finish it all in time. I'm typically pretty good at managing my time and sticking to my work plan but, this has been a lot more time consuming than I ever imagined. I know I've mentioned this before but I think one of the challenges is not being an expert in the field. In essence I'm creating a lesson for something that I'm not all that familiar with which means I need to teach it to myself before I can teach it to others.
After some more feedback from Dr. Winslow, I have edited the Grade Management Modules again, hopefully, third time is a charm. I also submitted the PDL Case Study Module, fingers crossed! Today, I spent most of my day working on the PDL Case Study Module and I have to admit it was kind of fun! The idea of a Case Study allowed me to be creative and create a story. I was able to create a fictional teacher, class, and lesson plan. I chose to make my teacher, Ms. Frizzle, an English teacher, which is a little out of my wheel house. My only fear is that my intro "lesson" to Romeo and Juliet isn't a realistic way to introduce the play. I chose Romeo and Juliet because I hoped it would be a relate-able topic for most students. Choosing a Spanish related topic may had been a little to foreign for most of the intended audience.
I know this is probably a ridiculous thing to post about but is it Grade Book or Gradebook? I have seen it spelled both ways in texts, posts, blogs, and research studies. So how should I spell it in my modules, I guess only time will tell.
Moving on to more substantial reporting. Based on some feedback from Dr. Winslow I spent some time today editing the Grade Management Module and the Intro to PDL Module. The fix for the Intro to PDL module was simple. All I needed to do was reformat the visual design, to make it look like the template Dr. Winslow provided us with. Editing the grade management modules, however, was a little bit more difficult. You see, the modules I created were not exactly what Dr. Winslow had envisioned and they were reading too much like a tutorial on how to use the gradebook within Moodle. So, he asked me to edit the script and keep in mind the idea of personalization. Change the language to include, "this is what I do" or "this is how I set this up". It sounded simple enough but once I started the editing I had a hard time making it sound right. Well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see if this draft passes inspection. So, today I spent hours upon hours working on the Grade Management Modules. I have to admit it was probably the most challenging thing I have done so far simply because I am so unfamiliar with using the gradebook within a LMS. I have used a digital grade since I began teaching but there is not much I have control over. My district has always told me how to name my categories and why types of assignments go in those categories. I guess the closest I have come is grading assignments within Google Classroom but even that is extremely limited in the features and functionality. Learning how to use the gradebook in moodle was definitely challenging, confusing and frustrating at times but, in the end I created something that I think is worthwhile.
