Assessment of Learner Achievement
Before discussing how students were assessed it is important to note the objectives for Spanish 1 learners. At the end of Spanish 1 students should be able to do the following according to the ACTFL standards:
I graded the writing and speaking station using the rubrics listed below. Students were provided a copy of the rubric as well as additional feedback as needed. Evaluation of Strategies and Resources Students are assessed informally constantly throughout any lesson. I also solicit feedback from students when needed. In addition, a short survey was created to gather feedback from students about the technology components used with this lesson. A link to the survey can be found HERE. After students completed the survey I analyzed the data. I used this data to facilitate a classroom discussion. During this discussion I gathered additional information and data about their likes, dislikes, and frustrations with the lesson. Revisions Based on student comments I will make some minor changes to the reading assignment in the future. The infographics themselves were fair yet challenging. Students struggled initially because they were overwhelmed by the format. They had difficulty understanding some of the symbols/characters and therefore became frustrated. In the future, I will work with the whole class on a similar example prior to this Blended Learning experience. In terms of technology, a few students experienced difficulties with the Voki website and were unable to record their voice. I worked with these students to troubleshoot the problem but have yet to discover a solution. In the future, I will develop an alternative way for students to complete this assignment if they experience difficulties with the Voki website.
